Tom Clancy's The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to develop a TTRPG that explores the series' post-pandemic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive planned to begin in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the table, offering fans a fresh avenue to experience The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Initial offerings will include a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and various premium versions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this setting, a lethal pathogen known as Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the nation into turmoil. As the crisis escalates, civil order breaks down and violent factions emerge, turning the city into a battlefield. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the agents enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been underway for about three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to access a broader market, specifically in North America. Manufacturing will start right after the campaign, with deliveries projected for the latter part of 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
An early look at the game's rules reveals it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic approach. Agents use skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, typically between one and five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, participants choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a perfect 10 grants special effects, such as extra damage or enhanced aid.
Combat Focus On Positioning and Situational Insight
Fights prioritize positioning and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Elements like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility have a direct impact dice rolls. This system is designed to reward coordination and smart positioning over raw numbers.
A Thematic Wound Mechanic
The way health is tracked adds a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a injury limit; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At critical condition, an agent collapses, but is not unconscious.
- They may still move and perform restricted acts, simulating the "downed" state seen in many shooter games.
- Any player knocked down must consult a injury chart, risking persistent effects like shock or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Adventure
A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It includes a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players lead the hunt for a missing medical team and work to stop an attack by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup will be unveiled near the campaign launch.
