Preview this Revamped Classic Adventure: A Complimentary Trial for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Arrives Soon.
Players looking forward to the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. An free-to-play demo version will become available on Jan. 7, granting a generous look into the game's initial chapters. Critically, all save data made within this demo can be carried over directly into the complete game upon its subsequent release.
More Than a Simple Remake: The Complete Overhaul
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a from-scratch reinterpretation of the iconic year 2000 JRPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant step away from recent series re-releases, like the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this remake adopts a striking three-dimensional art style. Environments have been crafted to evoke detailed model sets, with party members featuring a delightful stylized appearance.
"Considering the 3DS version, the story was still notoriously extended. Therefore, we reached a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary gamers."
Major Gameplay Changes & Updates
The development team have introduced several changes to update the original experience. Among these are:
- Expedited Field Battles: Taking a cue from contemporary RPGs, low-level monsters can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map without initiating a separate turn-based combat screen.
- Variable Battle Pace: Players have the option to speed up combat animations to rapidly power through less challenging fights.
- Expanded Vocation Mechanics: One brand new vocation has been added for this remake. Furthermore, characters now have the capacity to take on a secondary vocation, significantly enhancing strategic possibilities.
These changes are designed to mitigate a key the original game's frequent points of feedback: its considerable playtime. That initial main quest was known to take more than 100 hours to finish. This new version was expressly reworked to improve pacing and reduce any filler.
