New England Equal Longest Victory Run Since Tom Brady Years with Win Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs in the present year
New England tied their best victory streak from the Brady era as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory increases the New England's lead at the top of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to cap the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second quarter as the rookie scored two seven-yard TDs before the running back grabbed a reception from Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie late in the third period to reduce the lead for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the triumph
